Needless to say, there is much to do.
If you live reasonably close to Mineral Wells you may want to become involved in this effort. This meeting will afford you the opportunity to make that decision. You and your fellow classmates are in line very soon to inherit the responsibility for restoring and maintaining the old high school and the property surrounding it which fits in perfectly with my reason for contacting you as a group.
My husband and I are accumulating many responsibilities and job assignments that need to be distributed to responsible people who have the ability and perseverance to accomplish sometimes difficult assignments. The jobs are varied, wide-ranging, and satisfying. For instance we are building a contact list encompassing 100 years of graduates and plan a major money making event that may (or may not) pull in 500-1000 people – just examples. We need some dedicated people who want to see the school restored (especially the auditorium-it will be awesome) and people who can commit to accepting a responsibility and seeing it through to completion. You do not need to be a resident of Mineral Wells to participate.
I know there are many out-of town-graduates wanting to help once they hear about this effort. Remember that there may be five to six thousand MWHS graduates since 1960 who know nothing about this important endeavor. You could be the essential element in bringing these people together as a critical part of the overall effort in accomplishing this rebuilding of the high school. We need all kinds of talent like computers, sales, media, food management, etc. If this list doesn’t seem to fit your particular talents, don’t worry about it. We have something for everybody.
I would like to meet with everyone who feels they would like to contribute time and effort to this cause. We will meet at the old high school building at 602 W. Hubbard on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM. The entrance to the building will be the door on the west side next to the senior citizens center. We plan to further explain what is to be accomplished, ask for your ideas and input, and provide what information and resources we have at that time. We would like to have everyone advise us in advance if they can attend. You can respond to firstname.lastname@example.org or call the “Mountaineer Heritage Park” office at 940-325-5600. The office is open each Tuesday and Thursday morning. If you do not respond but find out at the last minute that you can attend, just come on – we will work you in anyway. We need all the help we can muster.
By the way, be sure to check out the Mountaineer Heritage Park web site, www.50yearclub.org. You can also find us on Facebook at MWHS Mountaineer Heritage Park. Hope to see you January 9, 2010 at the old school.
